Over the last week the bizarre just reached whole new levels in my book!
I have sat open mouthed at the TV and let out a gasp of shock at the newspaper! To what am I referring? Well the on line worlds of Second Life and World of Warcraft! Until 7 days ago I was in blissful ignorance of both – and as it turns out happily so.
Well we have a couple divorcing in real life because she caught him cheating in the computer game Second Life! And World of Warcraft seemed to be out of control when someone on Breakfast TV described how she needed to play for 6 hours a day and sometimes from Friday night to Sunday morning non stop!
But its okay she has a lot of friends – not real of cause just through the game!
Far be it for me to cast aspersions on anyone’s hobbies but I find this all very scary – there is a real world to live and explore and enjoy.
Are we really turning into a World were machines provide escapism because it is all people can do or think to do?
I guess it must be a generational thing, but quite frankly I am happy that my gaming experiences started and pretty much ended with Space Invaders and Pacman! Don’t get me wrong computer golf is fun, but it sure doesn’t beat the real thing!
I suspect the divorcees of Second Life ought to check out reality as well!
