Normally you have to wait till August for the silly season for stories. But as all sensible brass monkeys stay indoors we have started to see some unbelievable ones; and not even involving the recession or job losses!

Liskula Cohen a 36 year old Canadian in the USA is taking legal action against Google to find out the identity of an anonymous blogger so she can sue them for defamation.

"I was shocked and embarrassed to see photo captions and commentary used to describe me as a promiscuous woman who filthy, disgusting, foul and a whore," the 36-year-old said in a statement. "Defamatory statements describing me as a 'skank' and a 'ho' affect my reputation and desirability for endorsing products."

This highlights the dangers the spouting off free speech on the internet and what may ensue. I find it strange that people feel the need to be gratuitously abusive. Why can we not put our energy into being nice or helpful?

There is a big difference between argument, comment, views and downright abuse. Unfortunately not everyone seems capable of grasping the fundamentals of living.

I am curious how this will play out – not because of the blogger and whether he’s sued, but the implications and mess it could lead to.

We already know the litigious mess we have with ambulance chasers but what if our Courts get filled with people taking exception to derogatory comments? Will it make people think before they post their inane thoughts?

Of course it would be a whole heap easier if everyone spent time positively and stop wasting energy and legal costs on nonsense and abuse.
