Today’s flight is cancelled due to migrating geese…

In any situation you never quite know how each and everyone would and could react but also what about effects on others?

Last week we had the passenger jet that had geese in its engines after take off being skilfully glided down into the Hudson River and saving the lives of 155 passengers and crew. The calmness in the evacuation was admirable. Although time will tell what nonsense claims, accusations and repercussions may ensue. I suspect birds will have to start reporting their flight plans as a minimum.

Will it aid lobbying campaigns on matters such as Heathrow’s third runway? Whatever the outcome not everyone can be right or win. But still the protestors think that disruption and action that affects people going about their everyday work is the right approach. I guess that is the plight of the silent majority? I have mentioned Parliament Square before but I personally would like to see it as a clean and pleasant square as it should be. Not a free camping site – does it feature in the Camping Guides yet? Amenities: good security, hourly time check!

Some reaction even suggests those originally vehemently against Boris’ Thames Estuary Airport now think it a good idea. This just shows that perspective and alternatives can change someone’s views and therein lays the rub of how leaders lead and decisions taken need conviction.

Of course there will always be detractors but a strong decision followed through is better than dithering and drifting. Just ask the 155 passengers in the Hudson River, or the guy who ended up with 5p on Deal or No Deal Christmas day!
