I presume that it is human nature for some to take a mile if given an inch. For some they will kick their ball nearer the hole if playing golf or count 5 when taking 7. For MP’s they get a reasonable salary, award themselves inflation busting increases and get expenses most would just envy.
So how can it be so difficult to get it right? Did the Home Secretaries husband tries to seek distraction at the tax payer’s expense or was it a genuine oversight? But how much more of this is going on and surely it is the tip of the iceberg!
But the thing that caught my eye was a throw away item concerning the fact that MP’s were given 72 hours to “clean” up their expense records before they were made public. In the piece it contained a statement that one MP would be panicking because the public would see they had watched the Wizard of Oz over 50 times.
Now a fetish for the Wizard of Oz does not worry me. But the fact they keep paying for pay per view rather than buying the DVD is very worrying. This is surely a very bad judgement call from a financial perspective.
If they can’t get this sort of call right what hope with the bigger picture of running the Country?
It would be nice if for once we could see those in power acting altruistically and taking their public duties in the vein they are intended. At this time in particular to see this from Westminster should leave everyone cold.
