This isnt a dress rehearsal!

Some times you just realise if your time is up it is up!  I have had some scary flying incidents but through work commitments continue to fly very regularly.  But I haven’t yet encountered a pilot dying on the plane.

You will have read about the flight from Belgium to Newark last week where the pilot died and had to be landed by he co-pilot on his own, which apparently is not an easy task.

How would you feel being on that flight and finding out what happened?

My own experiences?  I was a guest to play Loch Loman in Scotland and flown up with 7 others by private jet.  The plane decompressed to 10,000 while we were at 32,000 feet.  Fortunately we were in blissful ignorance and messed around putting on the oxygen masks.  We survived and flew back on the same plane!

It hits home though when you find out this is what killed the American golfer Pane Stewart, where his pilot didn’t realise the plane decompressed and they flew on auto pilot having asphyxiated until they ran out of fuel.

The next was a plane suddenly veering right as we came in to land.  The pilot then came over the airwaves to tell us we had been coming in too close to the plane in front and had o divert to the other runway.  Too much information!

So my conclusions are that sometimes you are better not knowing.  If it’s your time then so be it.  In the meanwhile?  Just enjoy every second, be nice to all and live here and now.

This isn’t a dress rehearsal!
