Golf - you need to be mentally and physically prepared

I had a medical recently and when asked what exercise I did, I replied “golf” to which the Doctor retorted “that’s not exercise!” “So I said “on that view, then none!”

I mention this because we have seen a strange week whereby golf has 2 of the most bizarre stories of the moment going around.

Firstly Harold Stafford has been jailed by Luton Crown Court for assaulting Barry Barnes at Stockwood Park Golf Club.  Mr Stafford hit Mr Barnes with an 8 iron over whether Barnes had played Stafford’s ball.  A frustrating incident at the best of times but not one I would have ever thought capable of creating a golf rage incident, let alone getting yourself sent to jail for.

The second involves Colin Montgomerie and Sandy Lyle.  Lyle in an interview resurrected a four year old incident of whether Montgomerie had cheated in Indonesia in 2005.  Bizarre to the extreme when Lyle was asked a question about his own vanishing act in the 2008 Open.

Lyle sort of apologised but didn’t which has only fuelled the situation.

Of course the play will dictate the winner but ever one to have mind games affect him, this will not assist Montgomerie.  Of course Mr Stafford would probably just resort to his trusty 8 iron to resolve it.

So golf, no exercise?  You clearly need boxing skills, self defence and the mental agility of Derren Brown.  Not exercise?

Possibly not exercise, but clearly more dangerous than first appears!
