Our population is aging, open our arms and embrace it.

Age is a funny thing and our obsession with what’s too old, staying young and casting people aside never dwindles.

The BBC has been wrapped in controversy of casting aside aged presenters and newsreaders in favour of younger models snappily titled “auto cuties”!

Well if proof was needed that age should be respected, step forward Tom Watson.  Tom is an American golfer 5 times British Open Champion and shocked the World last week by coming damn close to lifting the title at Turnberry.

He led or was at the top of the field for all four days and finished second in a play off.  The man is 59 and under current rules is not allowed to play in the tournament next year because 60 is too old!

Now we have seen debates on retirement age and extending it out to 70, but all the while there is the general trend of our older elements struggling to find jobs and are the first cast aside.

But age brings wisdom and experience.  Age brings skill and opportunity.  Age brings a lot and we ignore at our peril.

If we hadn’t had the pimply spotty youths dreaming up schemes and scams in our financial institutions then a normal downturn couldn’t have become the World depression we have enjoyed.

So thank you Tom Watson for your 144 holes of genius and experience, matching the young bucks shot for shot.  The fact he lost the play off is irrelevant, what it highlights is the majesty age brings.

Our population is aging, open our arms and embrace it.
