Break out the bunting and the St Georges Flags! England have won the World Cup!

Oops, sorry, my mistake, they didn’t, they only managed to win their qualifying group for the South African World Cup in 2010; along with 31 other sides.

Now I haven’t seen news papers for the other Countries but I would hazard a guess no one goes overboard quite like we do. We can now look forward to 9 months of ever growing expectation and pressure on the squad.

We are told the bookies will face a £1billion avalanche of bets that could wipe them out. We have fans facing the spectre of inflated ticket prices on the black market, inflated air fares and rip off hotels!

Presumably if this is the case then so will 31 other Countries fans?

But of course this approach applies to everything, not just national football. Why oh why do we?

The recession would have happened for sure but the media sure banged on long enough during the boom of how it was ending, and now we see repeated coverage of the vaguest sign that the recovery is here and green shoots abound.

Jenson Button was World Formula 1 champion after winning the opening races of the season, and now is a choker because he has kept domination. Lewis Hamilton bubbles from hero to zero on each lap of the season.

There is a saying from a very dear friend, “moderation in all things except for moderation itself!”

Let’s keep perspective! But of course if we do manage to win I’ll be cheering as loud as any!

England will not will the World Cup (but do look good to reach the semi`s).

Jenson Button will win Formula 1.

Tories will not win a majority at the next election.
