Stick and stones will break my bones...

There is the old adage “stick and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me”, well try telling that to Fiona Pilkington and her daughter, the mother and her disabled daughter who committed suicide.

We are now seeing the alleged persecutors, the Simmons, claiming they are being hounded and their lives made a misery for their taunts and abuse to the Pilkingtons.

Now we should turn the other cheek and an eye for an eye is not the way forward. However, if the Simmons start to seek compensation or any benefits at all from this most appalling of situations then we are truly headed down an abyss.

The whole world of human rights and justice seems to be completely screwed up.

It would obviously be a heap easier if we all just live and let live, but there have always been bad people and their always will be those who think it is amusing to bully, harass and abuse others. But somewhere down the line we have to take responsibility for our actions.

Blaming the police and local authority is utter nonsense and entirely missing the point. One thing is to blame and that is the persecutors of Fiona and her daughter, they should be wracked with guilt, they should face a manslaughter charge, they should be accountable.

It is time to stop buck passing, stand up and be counted and see an end to this rapid slide into the less able to defend themselves losing out to the system and the drive for more red tape on our hard pushed services.
