Andy Warhol predicted everyone would have 15 minutes of fame and Simon Cowell has made himself a fortune exploiting the desire for celebrity hungry youngsters to live this out.
Well it is looking more and more like the Super Dog Svengali is about to be hoisted by his own petard. X factor is in it’s final stages and a pair of twins from Dublin; who have missed the minimum requirement by not being able to sing; are rapidly becoming public favourites to win!
This leads to an interesting conundrum, are the public back lashing against Simon’s domination of high income low cost TV or are they just bored with the relentless promotion of ever more marketing commodities?
You may recall that Pop Idol disappeared off our screens after the public voted for Michelle McManus to win and then she disappeared to low level gigs and fending for herself.
Following the public not going with what the judges wanted we found a replacement on our screens of the X Factor.
So what will transpire at the end of this season? I suppose it is always possible there could be a new voting scandal if the judges decide to rig the outcome? Or the public comes to its senses and stop voting for them? Or there is the prospect of a new singing competition?
Mind you perhaps in reality the public want our TV programmes to be filled with shows with real stars and an end to the relentless reality puppets!
