Just when you think you have heard it all....

The Ideal Home Show has come to an end and what a fantastic experience speaking there has been.  I did not take advantage of being able to tour round the stands so I could avoid being tempted to buy some gadget that looks as though it would make my life complete.  But in fact I would get home not know how to use it or what it was for!

But in presenting “The Pitfalls of Property” to audiences ranging from one man and his dog through to 60+; some of the questions and issues people are facing routinely are mind blowing.

I keep thinking that there will be nothing else to surprise me but they just keep coming.  How about a lady who is buying a house with an extension with no planning permission and on land that the seller doesn’t own!  She asked me if I though this was a problem!  Her solicitor had advised her not to make a fuss as no one had complained and it wasn’t a problem to complete!

There was a lovely young couple of first time buyers who had just completed on their first house and discovered the day after completion the neighbour was threatening to sue over damp in her property emanating from theirs!  This had all been reported to the mortgagees in possession and the estate agents in writing by the neighbour but not mentioned during the sale.

As Jimmy Cricket (the Irish Comedian) used to say, “there’s more!” But space doesn’t allow.

What it does show though is that the sooner we get licensing and regulation and easy simple redress for homeowners the better – watch this space!
