Well the luminous green colour of our coalition Government is taking hold like a slime spreading across the Country in some science fiction movie. From every corner and area they appear to be tackling the problems and mire inherited from the “prudent” Scotsman – thank God he wasn’t reckless!
Disappointingly the one area conspicuous by its absence in the Queen’s speech and early announcements has been the property sector. Bearing in mind property touches on every aspect of our lives and we still have the huge shortage of homes outlined in the Barker report you would think it would feature in their planning.
Well in spite of the market and the financial uncertainties abounding I have to report that we are seeing more signs of developers and house builders picking up their heads and looking to undertake development again. Over the last week alone we had over 1,000 flats in 7 schemes across our desk to consult on management and service charges. So this would indicate there is a clear sign the development market is moving.
Although given some of the appalling standards we have seen during the boom years, we can only try and ensure that building quality and standards are at an acceptable level. If we cannot build at an acceptable level then there is something seriously wrong with our development process.
So let us look forward to years of austerity and the private market going about its business meeting needs while the slime green party deals with the macro picture. And hopefully one day we will be back to a healthy national debt position.
