Most people think they are an expert without having any training in the profession. Only this week I had someone telling us exactly how he wasn’t responsible for the cost of fixing a leak in his flat and nor was the service charge.
I wonder how some of these guys and girls behave in the rest of their lives? Do they go to a restaurant and tell the waiters how to work the credit card machine; do they go on holiday and tell the pilot how to fly the plane – I’m thinking probably!!!!!
Of course as one leaseholder once said to me “don’t think there is anything you can tell me about property, I’ve lived in one all my life!”
Now, anyone on the coalface with residential property appreciates that everyone is entitled to their point of view and opinion. The challenge is when a level of ignorance kicks in and the tone becomes aggressive, unpleasant or downright rude.
I am sure there are times when all of us have been prone to frustration and lost our temper in a situation, which on reflection was not the corporate representative’s fault. However, there is never an excuse for such behaviour. Everyone is trying to do their job and time spent arguing back and forth is time that could be better deployed solving the problem – whatever it is.
Of course in reality everyone is different and some people will choose this type of behaviour out of choice. Much nicer being nice to people though and it does get better results!
